We want you to get the help you deserve.
Jeannie Lawson
I am passionate about helping patients facing health care challenges. My education and training includes a degree in Human Biology from Stanford University and certification as a Patient Navigator by the American Cancer Society Leadership in Oncology (ACS LION). However, much of what I know about helping cancer patients was gained during nearly two decades working at the American Cancer Society (ACS).
After working in health and environmental policy early in my career, I joined the ACS and worked directly with those affected by cancer to help them understand diagnosis and treatment information, as well as to find resources to meet their needs. As a manager and trainer in the ACS’s Cancer Information department, I was able to take part in or observe thousands of interactions with patients, families and caregivers.
While each patient’s needs are individual and unique, there were common struggles that many share. These include: confusion regarding their diagnosis, testing and treatment; challenges communicating with their medical team; difficulties navigating the health care system; logistical issues like transportation to treatment, and barriers related to insurance coverage and treatment costs.
In the midst of dealing with these types of issues, nearly every patient facing a serious illness struggles with feelings of distress - fear, anxiety or vulnerability. Many experience unsettling changes in their personal relationships.
My goal is to ease these burdens, so that patients, and their families, can focus on getting the treatment they need and regaining their health.
How it works
Free initial phone or video consult
Fill out the form linked below and we’ll follow up with you to schedule a video or phone call. We’d like to hear about your situation and discuss how we help.
Needs Assessment
If you decide to work with us, we’ll schedule an initial face-to-face meeting with the patient and/or family. At this meeting, we’ll do a deep dive regarding your needs and concerns and create a plan to address them together.
We’ll get to work
After understanding your needs, we’ll get to work. For more details about how we can help, see here.
Cost
As an independent patient advocate, we are hired directly by the patient or their family. The cost of our patient navigation services can vary based on your needs. We can discuss costs in detail at the initial consult.
As of January 2024, Medicare is providing some coverage for navigation services for cancer patients. This coverage may be available to help cover our fees. We are happy to answer questions about how Medicare coverage of navigation works. At this time, private insurance plans do not cover patient navigation services.
Where we work?
We are based in Austin, TX and assist clients throughout Texas and the US.
